I want to configure virtual firewall rules to allow ping traffic to and from a virtual machine (VM). How do I do that?
To allow ping to and from a VM, the following firewall rules must be added:
- ARP/L2 rule allowing any ARP/L2 traffic on the VM. Please note that the allow Any L2 rule is recommended for All VMs default group unless you intend to specifically control L2 (Layer 2) traffic.
- IP rule allowing ICMP traffic on the VM.
Note: Leaving the ICMP message types field blank will default the parameter to any type of ICMP message while 0 and 8 types cover echo requests and reply messages to ping the host.
